Connect CE One Stop Shop
Built From Both Sides of the Table
A Connect CE perspective on why brands entering UK and European retail need one joined up partner, not five.
I've sat on both sides of the buying desk.
As a Commercial Leader at Comet, HMV and InMotion I listened to hundreds of brand pitches. Some were brilliant. Plenty weren't. And the ones that didn't land rarely failed because of the product. They failed because the brand hadn't thought about what the buyer needed to say yes.
Then I moved to the brand side, first at Beats by Dr. Dre and later at Fossil. Suddenly I was the one doing the pitching. I learnt very quickly that winning a listing is only the start. Keeping the range on shelf, supported in store and selling through is where the real work begins.
Rashma's career has followed a similar path across Comet, Sony, Whirlpool, WHSmith and InMotion, in commercial, go-to-market and retail roles. Between us, that's more than 55 years of buying and selling.
That experience is exactly how we've shaped Connect CE.
The Problem with Piecing It Together
When brands come into the UK or Europe, they usually build their support as they go.
A consultant for the market entry plan. Someone else for pricing. An agency for in-store. A distributor. And eventually, often later than they should, a country manager.
Everyone does their bit. But nobody owns the whole picture. The strategy gets written by someone who has never sat in a buyer meeting. The listing gets won, but nobody is watching sell-through. The country manager arrives and inherits decisions they had no say in.
Good products fail in the gaps between advisors.
One Partner, the Whole Journey
So, we've brought it all together. Connect CE now works with brands as a one stop shop, from the very first conversation through to running the market for them.
1. Is this the right market? An honest commercial read before you commit serious time or money. Where you fit, who you're up against, and whether there's genuine space for you.
2. Getting retail ready. Range architecture, pricing that works for both the customer and the retailer, channel targeting and a proposition buyers can say yes to.
3. Choosing and managing your distributor. Finding, vetting and appointing the right distribution partner for your brand, then managing them properly so they deliver. We've worked with distributors from both sides, so we know what good looks like and what to watch for.
4. Landing the listings and making them work. Buyer introductions, negotiation, launch planning and in-store execution. The bit where plans meet reality.
5. Running the market for you. Fractional country management. A senior UK lead with existing buyer relationships, without the cost and risk of a full-time hire. We also act as the single point of contact for your marketing and PR agencies, so everyone is working to the same plan.
Brands can come in at any stage. Some need a quick diagnosis. Others want us alongside them for the long haul. If you know our Quick Charge, Power Up and Plugged In services, think of this as joining them up into one journey.
Why Fractional Country Management Matters
For most brands in their first year, a full-time UK country manager is a big bet. Salary, recruitment fees, notice periods, and the risk that the market takes longer to build than planned.
But not having one is a bigger risk. Buyers want a named person. They want to know who is accountable for the range, the promotions and how it all shows up in store.
And it isn't just buyers. Your distributor, your marketing agency and your PR agency all need direction too. Without someone joining them up, you get a press launch before stock lands, or a campaign pushing a product your key retailer hasn't ranged.
Fractional country management gives you that. Senior experience and established relationships, scaled to where your business is. And as the market grows, we can help you recruit and hand over to a permanent team, with the foundations already in place.
Why Both Sides Matter
Retail buyers don't just buy products. They also buy:
• Margin
• Rate of sale
• Differentiation
• Confidence it will work
We know that because we've been those buyers.
And brands don't succeed because they got a listing. They succeed because they kept it. We know that because we've been the brand too.
That's the difference. Not advice from the sidelines, but people who have done the job.
Let's Talk
If you're a brand looking at the UK or Europe and you'd rather have one team that understands both sides of the table, we'd love to hear from you.
